A Frederick, Maryland man was involved in a tragic single-vehicle crash that claimed the life of 18-year-old actress Kaylee Hottle, officials confirmed. The accident occurred Tuesday morning in Ijamsville, Maryland, leaving the entertainment community, classmates, and loved ones mourning the sudden loss.
According to the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a deadly crash in the 11400 block of Windsor Road in Ijamsville, located about seven miles from Frederick and approximately one hour north of Washington, D.C.
Investigators said a 1995 Honda Accord, driven by a 19-year-old Frederick man, traveled off the right side of the roadway before striking a culvert. Authorities believe excessive speed may have contributed to the crash.
Three people were inside the vehicle at the time of the collision. Kaylee Hottle, who was a passenger, was transported to a nearby hospital where she later died from her injuries. The driver was also taken to a local hospital and is expected to survive. A second passenger suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Kaylee Hottle was widely recognized for her role as Jia in the 2021 blockbuster film “Godzilla vs. Kong” and its 2024 sequel “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.” Her performances were praised for bringing authentic deaf representation to a major Hollywood franchise, as her character communicated primarily through American Sign Language.
The Texas School for the Deaf in Austin, where Kaylee was a senior student, confirmed her passing and shared a statement mourning the loss of one of its students.
“It is with profound sadness that we share the heartbreaking news that one of our TSD seniors, Kaylee Hottle, tragically passed away yesterday in a car accident in Frederick, Maryland,” the school said.
The school extended condolences to Kaylee’s family, friends, classmates, and everyone who knew and loved her, while asking the community to respect the family’s privacy during this difficult time.
Kaylee’s death has prompted an outpouring of grief from fans, classmates, and members of the deaf community who celebrated her talent, determination, and impact. Many have remembered her as a young actress who helped create greater visibility and representation for deaf performers in film.
