The Waltham, Massachusetts, community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Adama Sow, a member of the Waltham High School Class of 2026, whose passing has left family, friends, classmates, teachers, and the entire school community grieving.

Waltham Public Schools Superintendent Marisa Mendonsa announced Adama’s death in a message to students, staff, and families on Tuesday. The cause of death has not been publicly disclosed.

“This loss is deeply felt throughout our school community,” Mendonsa wrote. “Adama’s passing is heartbreaking, and we extend our sincerest condolences to his loved ones, friends, classmates, teachers, and everyone whose life was touched by him.”

As news of Adama’s passing spread, an outpouring of sympathy and support emerged from across the Waltham community. Loved ones are remembering him as a valued student whose presence made an impact on those around him. While the family has requested privacy during this difficult time, many continue to offer heartfelt condolences and prayers in his memory.

To support students and staff coping with the loss, Waltham Public Schools announced that school adjustment counselors will be available at Waltham High School from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday for anyone seeking support.

Mendonsa encouraged members of the school community to care for one another as they navigate this period of grief.

“Grief affects each person differently, and there is no right or wrong way to process such difficult news,” she said. “We encourage students, staff, and families to check in with one another over the coming days, to talk openly about their feelings, and to seek support if needed.”

Additional mental health resources have also been made available, including the Crisis Text Line, which offers free and confidential support 24 hours a day, and the Advocates Community Behavioral Health Center in Waltham.

“The strength of our community is found in how we come together during moments of profound sadness,” Mendonsa added, “and I know we will continue to care for one another in the days and weeks ahead.”

At this time, funeral and memorial service arrangements for Adama Sow have not been publicly announced. The family is expected to share additional information when it becomes available.

Heartfelt condolences are extended to Adama Sow’s family, friends, classmates, teachers, and everyone mourning this tremendous loss. May they find comfort in the love and support of their community and in the cherished memories that will forever keep Adama’s spirit alive.
