The Omaha Hockey Club and Moylan Iceplex community are mourning the tragic passing of 11-year-old Logan Rahn, who died Saturday after being struck by a truck while riding his scooter in Bennington.
Logan was riding his scooter near 179th Street and Island Circle last Tuesday when investigators said a truck struck him as he entered the intersection. Neighbors immediately rushed to help before emergency responders arrived, and Logan was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Despite medical efforts, Logan passed away four days after the accident. His family made the selfless decision to donate his organs, allowing his legacy to continue through helping others.
Logan’s death has deeply affected his hockey family at Moylan Iceplex, where coaches and teammates remember him as a talented young player who brought energy, positivity, and kindness to every practice and game.
Members of the Omaha Hockey Club said Logan was the type of teammate who celebrated others’ achievements as much as his own. His enthusiasm, friendship, and ability to make those around him feel welcome made him a special part of the hockey community.
Molly Diamond of the Omaha Hockey Club described Logan as someone whose impact was immediately felt by everyone around him.
“Logan’s smile was emphatic, his energy was great, but above all he was a friend,” Diamond said. “It didn’t take anything to be friends with Logan. He was just great.”
Logan’s teammates also shared their memories of him, remembering the joy he brought to the ice and the friendships they built together. His friend Drix Petsche said he would continue to hold onto the moments they shared and remember Logan whenever he returned to the rink.
Beyond hockey, Logan was remembered as a loving child whose kindness, bright personality, and positive spirit touched many lives. His sudden passing has left his family, friends, teammates, coaches, and the Bennington community heartbroken.
Support and counseling resources have been made available through Bennington Public Schools as students and staff cope with the devastating loss.
Logan Rahn will be remembered for his infectious smile, his love of hockey, his friendship, and the happiness he brought to those around him.
