Family, friends, fellow veterans, and members of the military community are mourning the passing of John M. Collett, a retired Army Ranger, decorated combat veteran, and founder of the Three Rangers Foundation, who died this week.
Collett was widely respected for his courage, dedication, and lifelong commitment to serving others. He earned a Bronze Star Medal for valor for his actions during the 1993 Battle of Mogadishu in Somalia, the historic military operation later portrayed in the film Black Hawk Down.
During his military career, Collett displayed extraordinary bravery and resilience. He was injured while attending the Special Forces Qualification Course, but continued to dedicate himself to supporting fellow service members and veterans throughout his life.
After retiring from the Army, Collett continued his connection to the military community by working as a military consultant and stuntman on the feature film Black Hawk Down, which depicted the events surrounding the crash of two U.S. helicopters and the loss of American soldiers during the Mogadishu operation.
Beyond his military achievements, Collett was remembered for his compassion and commitment to helping others. Through the Three Rangers Foundation, he worked to support veterans, honor the sacrifices of warriors, and create meaningful opportunities for those who served.
Collett also formed a close partnership with Ronny Sweger, founder of The FEW, collaborating on events designed to make a lasting impact on exceptional warriors. Their work together provided support, encouragement, and unforgettable experiences for many members of the veteran community.
