The Cincinnati community is mourning the tragic loss of Jonathan Young, a 46-year-old Department of Public Services worker who died following a crash on the Norwood Lateral on July 16.
According to the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, Metro bus driver Kyle Brandon Taylor has been arrested and charged with vehicular manslaughter in connection with the fatal incident.
Young was one of three City of Cincinnati employees working in a trailer attached to a maintenance truck as the crew picked up advance warning signs for a work zone in the right lane of the Norwood Lateral. A second city work truck was positioned behind them as a safety barrier.
The crash report states that around 12:45 p.m., Taylor was driving a Metro bus in the right lane at approximately 50 mph in a 55 mph zone when the bus approached the city vehicles. Investigators determined that Taylor was not distracted by any device but failed to see the trucks and collided with one of them.
The impact pushed the safety truck into the trailer carrying Young and his coworkers. Two workers were able to jump from the trailer, but Young was unable to escape.
Authorities said Young was thrown from the trailer and then struck by the city work truck behind it. He was transported to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.
Jonathan Young was remembered as a dedicated public servant who was performing his duties to help protect drivers and maintain safety on Cincinnati’s roads. His sudden passing has left family, friends, coworkers, and the wider community grieving an immeasurable loss.
Kyle Brandon Taylor remains charged with vehicular manslaughter as the investigation continues.
